Historic Live Oak

Our town started out as a comfortable rest stop for railroad workers underneath an old oak tree. In the 1800's it was one of the largest inland cities in Florida. While the world around us has changed, the heart of Live Oak remains the same. We have a vibrant, walkable downtown with interesting shops, numerous festivals through out the year andgreat activities for adults and children alike. We are surrounded by the Suwannee River, so beautiful springs are just minutes away with diving, swimming, and boating.

2nd. Annual Chocolate Festival

2012posterresized The Second Annual Live Oak Chocolate Festival will return to downtown Live Oak, Florida on March 3, 2012.

This event will continue the theme of “Chocolate with a Touch of Jazz and Blues”

The main event on Saturday will include Vendors, Chocolatiers, Artists, Crafters, and Wood Workers. The “Wonka Stage” will include entertainment and demonstrations during the day. “Authors Row” will again host local authors. The “Gump Stage” will feature book readings and some ‘mini’ writing and publishing seminars.

This part of the festival will run from 9am to 4pm.

The rest of the afternoon and evening will feature a free jazz and blues concert running from 4pm to 8pm.

The event is free to the public. There are limited opportunities for vendors including; food, high-quality arts and crafts, Chocolatiers, and other high-quality or unique products. Live Oak Partnership Announces 2012 Event Schedule

The Live Oak Partnership announced its’ 2012 series of crowd-pleasing home-town events for downtown Live Oak. The Partnership focuses on downtown economic development including retail recruitment and retention, property and physical improvement, marketing and promotions and business development. Downtown events are an important part of these efforts. The 2012 season includes:

Light Up Live Oak

Light Up Live Oak was a big success this year with Santa Claus arriving on the big red Firetruck, with sirens blaring. Many excited children greeted Santa and told Santa all their Christmas wishes. Frosty the Snowman made an appearance and passed out candy canes to all the children.

The Live Oak Women's Club hosted the Build A Reindeer Park and all the children made reindeers, put together reindeer puzzels and colored pictures of reindeer.

The Live Oak Partnership provided cookies, hot chocolate and candy canes to everyone.
Herold White was master of Ceremonies for the Community Sing. The Gephsemane COGIC Church Praise Dancers put on a fabulous routine and Kate Gilmer sang Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.
